Why We Hate China

The one thing that I really approve of our president is his diplomatic and friendly stance toward China. Despite his grandstanding of how he would go straight to the disputed islands to plant the Philippine flag, he seems to maintain collaborative relations with the dragon nation of Asia.

But many Filipinos do not agree to such diplomacy. Why? Because many Filipinos simply hate China (but not Chinese food).

There are several reasons why Filipinos hate China. And this is just my observation. This is not fake news. This is totally my opinion. The Chinese government is not paying me for this.

1. We are envious of their wealth.

We’ve always doubted their wealth and their methods of money-making. Behind their backs we would speak of it as ill-gotten and be indignant of their fondness for money-making, the way we speak ill of the prosperous Chinese-Filipino community in our country. The truth is, we would also like to join the bandwagon of these prosperous merchants. We despise them because we lack the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills that seem to be inherent in the Chinese. And obviously, we resent having them as our bosses and employers. So we resort to mud-slinging and creating legends of their unspeakable corrupt nature. But you know, Filipino businessmen are no different. In fact, we can actually surpass them- in terms of bribery and greed. The ruling family-merchants of our country even have our Constitution hostage to favor oligarchy.

2. We are envious of their white skin

It is possible that our hate for the Chinese is deeply rooted in our frustration and aspiration to have white skin. Our people were raised by colonizers to think highly of clear skin and of the west. We laugh at products made in China and we don’t even trust products that are made in our own country. We are so desperate to look like Westerners and become the Caucasians of Asia. Well at least that was our aspiration some 20 years ago. Now, it’s all about looking like Koreans- white silky skin with virtually no pores.

But the Chinese have us beaten there. Look at their clear white skin- very similar to the Koreans. They are the authentic white people of Asia. And in terms of skin color, we are nothing but a second-rate trying-hard copycats.

3. We believe they eat babies

One of our fundamental beliefs about China is they eat babies. We have that information from the internet. Before the brouhaha of fake news, we were already susceptible to what is sensational and false. Many of us are incapable of reading the lines and do not possess the appropriate intelligence and knowledge to judge what is right and what is wrong, or what is fact and what is urban legend. We put our faith and beliefs in urban legends and spit on what is fact. Maybe because we love entertainment and the absurd that’s why we choose urban legends, glamorize it, and uphold it as divine truth. And that’s where we are in having ties with China- we know nothing of their history or culture, or oblivious of the fact that if the Chinese president got pissed off with our stupidity, he could simply push the red button and erase our archipelago from the face of the earth. That’s how deep our understanding of the Chinese people and Chinese civilization.

4. Which bring us to my next point- our US-imported stupidity.

We adopted US-centered mentality, or better, the US-centered stupidity. How long have we been friends with the US? It’s not like we were better off with the US than with any other ally. Yes, it’s true- Americans helped us in the war and gave us our independence. But let us not forget, the US will support anything or anyone in the Philippines that will advance their interest. They had to uphold the Marcoses so the Philippines will stay with the West, even if it means having blind eyes towards human rights abuses and political turmoil. They would even finance that, as long as their interests are secured.

We all believe that US goods are better. Anything from the US is better. But we have to face the fact that we’ve always been fucked up with the US, and that the new economic power is China.

But then, we all love urban legends and we will stick to what has been stuck in our asses. In the meantime, we are so blind to see that the American empire is crumbling, and that the ancient empire of China is being reborn.

5. We have different Gods.

Our bond with the Americans is beautifully sealed by one another thing- Christianity, something that binds us strongly with the holy nest of pedophiles, The Vatican. We believe in the same God and the same Jesus Christ, uphold the same Bible, and live the same hypocritical lifestyle. We have a hard time indentifying ourselves with our Chinese cousins because we have different sets of belief system.

An example is how many Christian pastors are so willing to express their support online to the US president, simply because he was said to have bible studies in the White House. Really now. He’s a racist bastard who makes fun of persons with disabilities and behaves immorally towards women- things that Jesus Christ would do (?).

And why are we even willing to prep up the whole nation when the Pope is about to visit our country? It’s not like the Vatican will be providing jobs or making our economy and society better. After the visit, our streets are bathed in blood, we are at each others throats, and we’re back again to our real identities- full-blown hypocrites.

Then we will look at China, shake our heads and proclaim them as godless people. Shame. Shame. Shame.

Religion is important. It gives our society a heart to care for the poor and love our neighbors. It’s supposed to teach us equality and dispense justice for all, defend those in dire need, and maintain peace. But we are no better than the godless country of China.

So there you go folks. These are just my thoughts and ramblings over a pile of dumplings I’m about to devour.

Personally, I would love to go to China. It’s a country rich in resources, culture, beautiful landscapes, and it has a very interesting history. And I admire the strong cultural identity the Chinese have. I would like to start a business there and take part in that economic and financial boom. And most of all, Chinese guys. Yummy. LOL!

Beauty in the Eyes of the Social Media

I am happy for Xander Ford. I am happy that Marlou Arizala is dead. I am not a hypocrite. I embrace the “beauty is all” mentality. I am neither the hottest hunk nor the most gorgeous douchebag next door. But I would still choose the hunk and the handsome over the ugly and smart, UNLESS, he’s rich. That’s another story.

photo from PEP.ph

In the words of younger co-millenials of mine (yes I’m a fucking millennial, don’t you dare doubt that. Though I am the eldest of our kind, borderline Gen X), the netizens were shooked (that’s a word nowadays, can you fucking believe it?!). Mixed reactions really.

Many people are saddened because, for them, the becoming of Xander Ford is the unbecoming of human values on aesthetics- that is becoming more and more superficial. To me, it’s sheer bullshit and hypocrisy. Marlou was famous because people were making fun of him in the internet. Eventually he had a strong following, because people usually think that the ugly are good comedians. I think his comedy days are over.

We all love beauty. We all cheer for the beautiful. I have written so much about this hot young cousin of mine. He’s no Einstein but whatever shit he posts on Facebook, it would be gathering a minimum of a hundred likes. It’s not even relevant or funny. When I post something witty on Facebook, I get 6 likes, 5 death threats and an excommunication (the latter is not even a joke). Sometimes there would be a mob outside my place, all excited to burn me in the stake. That’s because I have no cheekbones that compliments my eyes, no abs to show, and no smile to generate boners and wet pekpeks. That’s the reality. And that is not the said reality. Reality is a cold bitch. Shove a vibrator in its ass and it’s still a cold bitch.

This is the 21st century. And in our time today, when beauty products are a plenty, plastic surgery, and wellness clinics are sprouting like mushrooms left and right, to remain ugly should be considered a sin. Technology and medical progress have provided solutions to correct whatever glitches nature had in our physical formation. I still don’t understand why many people can’t accept this.

The issue here is actually financial- that many of us cannot afford these beauty products or undergo cosmetic surgery. But the wellness industry is doing its best to expand its clientele so that we, the paupers and can’t-afford people, can get the whitening soap and the glutathione pills.

So if you want to look good. Go! Get that gym membership. Get that whitening soap and slimming pills. Work hard for it. It will make you happy and feel better about yourselves. There should be no shame in aspiring to be beautiful. It is shameful though to shame others who have this aspiration. But if you choose to stay just the way you are, then, I have no problem with that. It just make us glitter, look better, and who knows, I might get laid finally!

In the Name of the Father, and of The Cop and of The Holy Immunity

The Tatay of the Land. Keeps a humble place. Keeps a humble profile. The nation has no problem with that, except for Trillanes. Can’t add any other words to this except for the word, “Untouchable”. Not the new cultural trend of politics. We’ve seen this before. Even before 1972. Before you get to him, you will pass through the hellfire and spite of the Dutertards. There’s a phantom menace over the land.

That boy in your baranggay. Keeps his smile. Friends of the tambays. Friends of many. Average student. Loves basketball. He’s been carrying something in his pockets; that’s what the cops told us. Probably doing some small business in drugs. So they planted several bullets in his head and body. He was armed, they said. Nobody knows. The kid was a small-time drug dealer, thus sayeth our honourable cops. Dutertards continue to chant, “He had it coming!” No one will ever know the truth. The rule is, if he’s carrying pouches, shoot him. If you found tons of drugs, there should be due process and bring in the whole circus of the Senate as well!

Cops. Evil lordlings. Corrupt and greedy. The Tatay came in and all these demons suddenly became trusted pets, hounds from hell caressed by the divine hands of the Father. Our new heroes. The shield of truth. Knights in shining armor, kissed by the Almighty.

Citizens. Stupid. Stupid. Cowards. Treacherous. Victims of police before the Father’s arrival. Victims of police even after the Father’s arrival, except that drug addicts and pushers have precedence in the death list. Innocents are just a bonus. Citizens and innocents are nameless, mere numbers. Do not give them names so that there won’t be drama. Do not give them a history so there won’t be any future at all. Let the bullets rain. Let Death dance over the roofs of our houses. Let Fear join him. They are now nameless guilty corpses- just bones or ashes, or buried deep in the earth. They are now nameless walking corpses- breathing and silent, or chanting “Protect and Defend the President!”

House Majority Leader Rodolfo FariƱas, honourable representative from Ilocos Norte. A Filipino citizen. Law-maker. Busy with hearings and congressional session. Wakes up in the morning and needs to get to work on time. Cites the Constitution so now he is entitled to a hassle free trip from his posh residence to the Batasan. Problem solved.

Working-class hero Juan de la Cruz, tired and sometimes pissed-off worker from the province, now working in the city. Filipino citizen. Law-abider, tax-payer, flying-voter, social survivor. Busy trying to survive, to feed family three times a day, to send children to school. Wakes up before the sun comes up and needs to get to work on time. Pays the jeepney or bus driver, shoves and kicks other passengers, wait in line, TRY NOT TO BE FED UP WITH THE CONDITIONS OF PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION BECAUSE HE HAS NO OTHER FUCKING OPTIONS, as he travels from his small house inhabited by family, and other relatives, dogs, cats and cockroaches, to his work. His problems in travelling are not solved because the dilemma is simply way beyond his power.

The Holy Immunity. Arroyo. Aquino. Enrile. Marcos. The Father. Political princelings and overlords donning the title of honourable while standing in the august chambers of powers. All the turncoats who enjoyed the graces of the Second Aquino, and even the graces of the infamous Gloria Arroyo, now standing side by side with the Father. Dismantle the Supreme Court. Dismantle the Ombudsman. Dismantle, discredit or destroy the remaining powers that obstruct the Father.

The common man in the street. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Soon to be another casualty in the war on drugs, dying with a bullet in his head. Normal. You’re nameless.

From the “Set of Principles for the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights Through Action to Combat Impunity” that was submitted to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights-

“Impunity” means the impossibility, de jure or de facto, of bringing the perpetrators of violations to account - whether in criminal, civil, administrative or disciplinary proceedings - since they are not subject to any inquiry that might lead to their being accused, arrested, tried and, if found guilty, sentenced to appropriate penalties, and to making reparations to their victims.

Its First Principle states:

Impunity arises from a failure by States to meet their obligations to investigate violations; to take appropriate measures in respect of the perpetrators, particularly in the area of justice, by ensuring that those suspected of criminal responsibility are prosecuted, tried and duly punished; to provide victims with effective remedies and to ensure that they receive reparation for the injuries suffered; to ensure the inalienable right to know the truth about violations; and to take other necessary steps to prevent a recurrence of violations.”

Fearmongerism

Of course, the fullness of a State Bully is completed by the presence of its gang. Yes, the gang of Duterte supporters, commonly known as the Dutertards.

In North Korea, they venerate their leaders in the spirit of communism. In our country, the State Bully is venerated by his horde of supporters, united by the cult of fearmongerism.

I like the Dutertards. They are united. They give solid and genuine support to the President. They are updated and are ever more socially aware of what’s happening in the country. And now, they have the flair for exaggerated drama to the point of being able to polish formidable bullshit. They started good and could have ended as glorious trail-blazers. Instead, we see nothing but virtual and mini-versions of Mocha Uson all over the internet and the archipelago.

That was actually the dream- that I would see Filipinos being informed and making strong statements for the country, for our communities, and for our ambition as a nation. But I see a group of people standing for one person, defending one person, and even trying to cover up the shit of one person, although that one person is not the country. I see people promote a state of mind in maniacal fear.

Ok, my problem with these people are that they are smart and intelligent and they are spewing the most incredible bullshit I’ve ever heard, chanting the slogan- Defend and Protect the President, or something of that nature.

It is as if the Presidency is constantly under siege, that there are dark forces conspiring for his downfall (I mean what the fuck? This is politics for chrissake, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEBODY WHO’S GOING TO PLAN HIS DOWNFALL, SO THERE’S NOTHING REALLY NEW ABOUT THIS SHIT?!), and that it cannot defend itself alone. That’s why the Dutertards must unite to protect and defend the President.

Bullshit.

Defend and protect who exactly? The President who was able to implement his plan of action to hunt down drug dealers (or kill whistleblowers, it’s practically the same these days, innocent, criminal, doesn’t really matter. Dead is dead, and that’s the war on drugs my friend, so eat that shit), implement the Freedom of Information Act (other presidents like the boneless Noynoy Aquino didn’t have to balls to do it, Arroyo was too corrupt, and others were busy with something else), and change Cabinet officials with one snap at a time, without weakening the resiliency of the presidency? Is that the kind of president who needs protecting and defending?

Look, Noynoy was a boneless dumbass who made the poorest decisions- from fucking up China, the Manila hostage crisis, the internal bickering in the Liberal Party of which he has no real power over, and yet his administration survived. Arroyo, a little lady playing the role of president in a macho-oriented political culture faced impeachment raps, rallies, mutinies (read: TRILLANES the perpetual epal), but remained president all throughout nine years. And you all are compelled to protect Duterte? Are you fucking serious?

Defend and protect from whom exactly? The President is hell-bent on sending to jail or politically demolish drug-lords and democratically elected political leaders who have been critical of his rule. Single-handedly. Defend him from human rights groups? He bullied the CHR, an agency that eventually came back with its tail between its legs. Criminal lords? He was wiping out drugs and criminals in less than one year, something the other presidents couldn’t do in their 6-year stint. The media? He just convinced his supporters to discredit all media networks, and he has a formidable army of political bloggers, and many social media geniuses, that in the years to come obsequious historical revisions will flatter him even in the grave. Who the hell would have the guts to stand up and destroy the Strong Man? Are you all fucking serious?

There’s really nothing wrong when citizens stand up and express their loyalty and support for the president. It is commendable. But what pisses me off is why only for him?

When the country was ravaged by corruption and criminals, where were these Dutertards? Why weren’t they making strong statements against all the forces of evil? Why weren’t they standing up for the people?

They don’t stand for the people anymore. They stand for one man. Serving the pleasure of one man. They betrayed their own kind. They betrayed their fellow men, the way Filipinos betray and spit on the graves of those who fought for such freedom and rights.

So go on. Protect and defend him. Let’s wait when China steps in. And when that time comes, who will protect and defend the people?
